Director Glenn Gordon Caron discusses Cinematographer Conrad Hall’s sense of melancholy:

There was certain quality of melancholy that Connie (Conrad Hall) carried with him that he was very in touch with and you feel it in the films.

How do you bring something authentic to the screen?  Live it.  Nowhere is this more apparant than the way that he filmed Robert Blake in this haunting scene from In Cold Blood.
